  1. Tim Reid,

An excellent short-break walking holiday, accessible by public transport. The recently instituted Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the County of Denbighshire is a hitherto much underrated area of the country for walking, except for the part of Offa’s Dyke Path that passes through the area (one of this holiday’s days of walking takes you along part of it). Very varied and stunning landscapes, as well as interesting sites to visit along the way..

Audrey (the organiser) was both efficient and friendly, as were the staff in all the B&B’s we stayed in. Luggage transfer, delivery of packed lunches, and directions, mapping, and incidental notes on the walks were all excellent. The food (breakfasts in the B&B’s, Audrey’s packed lunches, and evening meals in various places) were all tasty and nutritious. In particular, the packed lunches were alsways more than we needed to sustain us for a challenging day’s walking. In Rhuthun (a beautiful and historic town) and Llangollen, for the evening meal there was a wide range of possibilities: from foodie places to eating take-away fish and chips in the square. Elsewhere the village pub was good, one with good local ale. Accommodation was mixed, but perfectly acceptable (two lovely recently refurbished places, one of which is a community-run pub) and was very walker-friendly.

We plan to repeat this holiday (a range of walk options are offered for each day, as well as some other ways of spending your time, so it can easily be done more than once without repetition), and I have no hesitation in recommending it, with the one proviso that Londoners used to doing Time Out walks need to be aware that 10 miles in Welsh mountains (even if it isn’t Snowdonia) is more than 10 miles in the Southeast. Be prepared and allow plenty of time.

just a quick note to say I really enjoyed my break booked recently with yourself. The routes were scenic with a good mix of landscape and wildlife to see and interesting places to visit and also were quite easy to follow. The accommodation at Ruthin was nice and traditional and the second night was very comfortable and friendly. Your packed lunches were really nice (especially the homemade bread and welsh cakes – I wouldn’t mind the recipe for the muffin!).
Please send me info of any new routes you may plan in the future as I would certainly consider booking another.

We had a lovely time, especially enjoyed stay in Raven, and 3rd day walk above Llangollen-spectacular.

Really enjoyed this walk, and appreciated extra Audrey and our hosts did to cater for our young children. This area is stunning and under appreciated. Children loved the Llangollen railway which was thier reward for the previous 2 days walking.
    Thank you
